John C. Fremont
Born January 21, 1813
Died July 13, 1890
Home State Georgia
Political Parties Democratic, Republican

In 1803, the United States bought an absurd amount of land from the French for a very low price. John C. Fremont decided to explore this new land, and he and his wife wrote about his experiences, making him a popular public figure. Eventually, Fremont became a Senator from California, though it didn't last long.

In 1856, due to his status as a popular figure, the new Republican Party nominated Fremont as their candidate for president. So... This is kinda awkward, but... Wellll let's just say Fremont, uh... Didn't really know that much about politics. He was so uninformed, his wife did far more for his campaign than he did. Even more awkward, he lost the election. Most agree he would have been a better president than James Buchanan.
